As you probably already know, eating healthy foods is important. What you eat affects your mood, your hormone production, brain function and of course your wellbeing and health in general. If your diet does not contain the right nutrients, your body will not function optimally - as it does not have the raw material to do so. Yes, it is actually that simple.
If you are going to get all the nutrition your body needs, there are five basic nutritional components your food should have: fat, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Without these nutrients, the body cannot function, not recover, nor replace worn out cells. In addition, your brain cannot function optimally, which not least adversely affects your hormone production.
Our emotions, thoughts, experiences, memories and our moods are largely controlled by the brain's "messenger", the various signaling substances (mainly serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine and GABA). Disrupting their levels due to poor diet and stress also disrupts hormone production, which can cause, for example, depression, sleep problems and decreased concentration ability.
Instead, if your body and brain get what it needs, you increase your chances of feeling healthy and happy and feeling good, which also means that you can make good decisions about yourself and your life.
Of course, it is best to get the nutrition we need directly from the diet. But sometimes, some supplements need to be added. Since the food we eat today is not as nutrient-dense as one would wish because of, for example, depleted soils and decomposed raw materials, we may not always provide ourselves with all the nutrients we so well need. At the same time, certain factors may increase the need for nutrients, e.g. stress, birth control pills, some medications, alcohol, vegetarian and vegan diets (which may contain too little of, for example, certain amino acids, iron, zinc and B12 if you are not careful). Eating right and healthy also requires a little planning, which some days is easier said than done!
